    Welcome to the Group Wolfpow!
    You’ve come to the right place for help and info.  You’re gonna have a lot of fun finishing her out.
    Get a copy of “How to Keep Your VW Alive” by John Muir. I’ve had 4 VWs in the past and my copy is almost worn out from using it. The VW has some different needs from the Scout and at times takes a different mindset.…[Read more]

  • Hey Gene,Some ideas on what you could try.  If you’re handy and want to buy some new tools, check out “How to Restore Metal Auto Trim” by Jeff Lilly. His techniques can get you pretty close to straight  on the shell.  Then contact a re-chroming shop, not a body shop,  and see what they say.  Or ask the chrome shop  if they  can do all the work. …[Read more]

    DickYou  need to read my thread under chevy/ford kits about oil pressure gauge problems.  The stock Chevy sender you buy at local parts stores will not work with the Classic Instrument gauge!!BTW, anyone need a couple of new stock Ford sending units? Ringo

  • I had been looking for a TD replica for almost 2 years after my wife said she wanted a TD.  I didn’t want the hassle of re-doing a real one, I just wanted to drive!  I called about one listed in the  paper and after talking to the owner decided it was worth a look.I got the wife to drive with me the 120 miles.  She noticed the tool kit, win…[Read more]

    Steve and PeggyWelcome to the forum.Rich has you pretty well covered on the prices.  You also might want to look under classifieds in the Running cars for sale section in the forum to get some other input. Just don’t be fooled by the ridiculous asking prices that some “collector” dealers have posted on the web.I’m also curious re; whether  y…[Read more]

  • Larry and gang;
    Talked to some hot rod friends and they say that the stock sender won’t work with after market guages.  Testing the unit by grounding the wire when switch is on shows that guage and wiring is okay.   So I’ve ordered a sending unit and some bushings from Classic Instruments.
    We’ll see. (they bet me a 6 pack they’re right!)

  • Hi Larry;
    Thanks for the input. My security guard and I think I replaced the sender prior to the final hook up of the dash. (You know, looking to find and replace any loose links in the electrical while it was all apart.)  To be honest, I didn’t notice the oil guage pegged until I got back from our rattle run. So, it could be the wiring but I…[Read more]

  • Thanks for the comments. Chuck,  those are the original Classic Instruments gauges.  Try here for the closest I’ve found.http://www.classicinstruments.com/gaugeselector.aspxRingo

  • Hi gang;
    Testors also makes a clear turn signal amber that works great on the front running (turn signal) lights if you can’t find a yellow bulb.

    Hey Dick;
    Yeah, I was looking for one myself, some are close, but the needle size and the word “voltage” like the original style were not out there.  Let us know if you find a source, I might incorporate one in the next dash re-do.  (not anytime soon, I can assure you)

    Hey Bob;
    Welcome to the group.  I’ve had problems logging on, (thanks Paul and Frank for your help), hope this goes through.
    There may be possible roll bar and windshield height problems, but that aside, I can say that I’ve never thought of a replica TD in that color.  It’s beautiful!  There’s something to be said about modern colors on an old…[Read more]

  • Hi Kent

    Maybe a Weber? It’s like half a 4
    barrel, so you get good low speed mileage but when you open it up it
    really delivers. Cost is not cheap but the only other options are
    pretty much modified Holleys or similar carbs that are like what
    came on the Pinto. What do you mean by so much junk on it?

    Hey GangSharp eyes!  The
    previous owner placed the reflective tape on the outside angle of the
    slats.  Looks good and really is a nice safety feature at
    night.  It does have some wear and I have replacement on my list
    of things to do. Thanks for the comments!Ringo

  • Hi Geoff

    I don’t have any first hand info on V8 swaps in the TD replicas, but
    I’ll throw in my two cents worth on engine swaps in general.
    Measurement of physical sizes should be easy to obtain on the web. The
    radiator size for a V8 isn’t the problem it used to be since you can
    get very efficient 4 row and electric fans that can cool a V8.…[Read more]

  • Hi Chuck;My Duchess had heat shrink and body seam sealer on the under fender parts.  When I replaced one of the lights, the underneath had less corrosion than what was under the glass!  So, I did the same when I changed it.  Silicone (Auto Goop?) might do as well.Ringo

  • Hey Gang,I sure hope we can find out a fit for these.  I’ve goggled many times for wiper blades that will fit such a small windshield with no luck. I hope we don’t have to keep cutting down the blades to fit, looks kinda tacky.  The arms themselves for mine were old VW  and they were easy to find at CPI.Take care;

    Hi RichWelcome to the group.  Nice ride you got.  Glad it’s only got some small things that need work.Whew, if you can drive an average 96.6mph you need a V6!!! Seriously, I bet that V6 is a blast to run!Have fun!Ringo

  • Hawk, I’d go with fiberglas, I doubt you would get enough frame flex to worry about with a 4 banger.  The other choices have their own problems and fiberglas is much more adaptable. Just my .02 worth.Good luck with the project.Ringo
