Allen, I’ve been watching TDs on ebay for about a year now and I think anyone getting even $25k for their car is lucky.$15k is more like it, from what I’ve seen. For a possible deal, check this listing. Under $12k ‘buy-it-now’ price for a legit MK-II should be sweet. Surprised no one’s grabbed it yet.Yeah, it’s missing a fuel pump. And yeah, it’s…[Read more]

Geoff:There’s me, about 20 miles north of Baltimore. There’s Dale Schumacher down closer to DC. Not sure where exactly, But I think NOVA. He’s got an awesome VW-based TD with wire wheels. There are also about half a dozen Speedser guys within hailing distance. They’re good people too, and especially tolerant of us MG guys. Can we count on you at Carlisle?

I’d mock it up first with a homemade pine box before trying it on the kit fiberglass

Hope you get that, Mark. Also, I want to come over. I have a huge garage. Really huge, by my own standards. I guess I could put about 8-10 TDs in it.–It’s probably about half the size you’re describing. If you get what you want, we show it to Karen, and she thinks our garage is “normal!”

edward ericson replied to the topic Tachometer and 1st post in the forum General Discussion 15 years, 5 months ago
Craig,I have the same tach & expect to replace it this winter. You can see it in my gallery, third photo, I believe.Mine reads to 7,000 rpm and matches the Kph one we both have (83 mph?)The tach is working, though it seems to read high at idle–about 1300 rpm. I’m pretty sure I’m not idling that high. The bezel needs a spot of polish too. If…[Read more]

Way to go, Ringo. Air tools rock. And painting is indeed possible with a good compressor. Have fun.

That is brilliant, Paul. Less than half a second off perfect! Was it in the TD?And, yeah, setup on these might be more work than I can handle next summer. I do have other pursuits. But there appears to be a rally club or two ’round these parts. Maybe we can muster up a TD contingent for an existing run. I’m going to open it up to the Speedster…[Read more]

I’m lovin’ that little kid standing up in the well behind the seats. No belts on anybody…and those wicked-cool leather RAF helmets. OK, maybe that’s not Paul in 1979. It’s me in 2015.Gotta find that movie. Watched “Two For The Road” w/ Karen last month and it almost broke us up. Total bummer of a film. Couple cool TD scenes though.

Ed,
I might be up for that – keep us updated -

Looks like some of the clubs do SCCA-sanctioned events on the regular. Maybe a few of us can join one or two of those & get the hang of it. I’ll email around and see what comes up.

edward ericson replied to the topic Has anyone made an MGTD looking trailer?? in the forum General Discussion 15 years, 5 months ago
Cool idea. What you’d want would be the back 1/4 of another kit body. But the TDs with trailers I’ve seen have used just a rectangular wagon. Maybe match the wheels. This guy talks about his little trailer somewhere on the site. Says they were common and, by the looks of his, pretty plain jane:
I’d say your best bet would be to make a small…[Read more] -

Junkman,
There is a local VW guy here in VA that has a bunch of old VW’s he is parting
out from the back of his shop and a few of them have titles. He has offered
to sell a title and the SN cut off the old car for about 100.00. You would have
to pay for the shipping of the steel chunk and weld it in yourself. His name is
John – let me know if I…[Read more] -

edward ericson replied to the topic Lower Radiator Hose in the forum Chevy/Ford Kits 15 years, 5 months ago
Way to overcome adversity. If I was you I’d check the front motor mounts though. I don’t think your fan should have ever cut your hose. Bet you got a rotten mount (or two). Also about $15 each, probably, and not as hard to replace as you might first imagine.

Any way you could unbolt and discard the A.I.R. pump, which I suspect is the offending bit of “emissions” equipment?

Coolio, Richard. I sent the BCW site an email last May, asking them to add our badge to their page. Never heard back. Figured they were into that whole all-original snob appeal thing. Forgot about it until getting this reply the other day. So I figure this means we’re welcome at any BCW event now.
Here’s what I got, followed by my original email:Hi…[Read more] - Load More
