  •  Montie, You did a great job with the engine compartment.  I really   like the stainless piece with the MG emblem.    Thanks for sharing the pictures.

  •  Gary, Search   AIR COOLED VW    on the internet.  They have spring loaded tubes  that they say will allow the replacement without the removal of the head. About $12.00 each ,also available in sets.
I have no experience with this product but it may solve your problem.

  •  Montie, Look in Chevy/Ford kits under BCWdash project.

  •  Hi Al., I pulled up the Samba site and found the car . It looks like a Fiber Fab kit, which is one of the more widely available brands. MG Magic in Hollywood Florida has some parts for this type but they can get expensive. The VW parts are readily available from several online venders.
It appears that the car has been sitting for some time so y…[Read more]

  •  If I had not checked with him sometime back and identified the one wearing the goggles as his security guard, I would jump to the conclusion that Ringo has the most hair of all our forum members.
I am working on developing a skin tone chin strap to solve the cap in the wind problem.

  •  Ed, I’ve got one of those caps. It will not stay on with the windows out ,much less with the top down but it does look cool and very British.
The car looks a lot like a MP Lafer but with a head light bar and different lights on the fenders.  The door hinges at the front and removeable  solid windows are Lafer simularities. I have never heard of…[Read more]

  •  I’m not sure about Ford based cars, but on my Chevette based BCW, the shifter is built in to the rear extension of the transmission. Therefore the shifter location is determined by the placement [location] of the engine . I seem to remember hearing other Ford based owners complain of the shifter being too close to the seat, causing the dr…[Read more]

  •   Will,  MG Magic’s parts list shows the following,
Front bumper, rear engine kit   53” across
Front bumper front engine kit  57 1/2 ” across
Rear bumper MG Kit  55 1/2 across
Rearbumper MG Kit  61 1/2” across, special , no longer available.
Perhaps your kit was shipped with the shorter rear bumper because the longer one is not availab…[Read more]

  •  Gary, Try loosening the brake lines  where they connect to the master cylinder while having a helper  press down the brake pedal. By doing this you will be bleeding just the MC ,not the entire system. Once you get fluid flowing to  the lines you can then bleed the wheel cylinders .
I agree with Dale about the rubber hoses. Mine would let flui…[Read more]

  •  Hi and welcome to the forum.    Click the photo gallery icon at the top right of this page,a list of names will come up,  click on SARGE, he has a Ford based car with wire wheels that I think came from MG Magic. The pictures at the bottom of the page show the car and also a close up shot of one of the wheels. Click on the links page, at the lowe…[Read more]

  •  Dan , I know what you mean about giving up on the computer. I get our children and grandchildren to come up here and ”fix” our’s quite often.
The person that posted the ad is the lady that owns the car’s grandaughter so I doubt if they could use a Harley but you never know. There must have been a grandfather somewhere in this picture.

  •  Dan ,Try this e-mail address
        sale-zpxgy-1872007317@craigslist.org
That is the one I got thru  with.

  •   Mark,   When I saw the one in Chevy Chase, my first thought was ”That would be a good opportunity for Mark to get back in the TD replica world”. GO FOR IT!!
There  is a green VW based car on Knoxville Craigslist that has been on there for several months but the Allison has only been on for two or three days. I got an e-mail from the gra…[Read more]

  •  Dan, I clicked on the link in the Craigslist and it went thru. I got a reply from the owner’s grandaughter who is helping her grandmother with the sale.  She confirmed that it is an Allison with the Nissan engine and drive train/suspension.She ”thinks” that it has real wire wheels.
I got the impression that she is not too experienced in th…[Read more]

  •  Ed , It was no inconvience at all. Now if I have to replace my water pump, I know to allow extra time because of all the extra complications. As is the case quite often on this forum ,one member’s problem gives all of us an opportunity to learn the solution and know just what we may be facing down the road.

  •  I’ll have to cut the list back to two cars ,one is a Chevette based car.
There is a Ford based on the Kansas City  Craigslist and one on the Dallas Craigslist.
They show up on a site that I have proggramed as a favorite in my computer but I cannot link you directly to them.I’m not too cp savvy.

  •  Hi and welcome to the forum.
In addition to the ordinary used car items, pay close attention to how well the car is assembled ,Notice if it appears that the builder took time and effort to fit and finish things properly or if things were thrown together in a sloppy manner. If you enjoy reworking things, you may get a good deal in a car that so…[Read more]

  •  Mark, Thanks for the solution and the diagram to show how to hook it up. If I understand correctly, this does not solve the problem of a faulty solenoid ,but does make sure that enough voltage is reaching the unit to insure that it is able work properly.
Ed ,Becky was very experienced with the ”screwdriver start method ” when a 69 Camaro was o…[Read more]

  •  Ed, Check all the connections, begining at the battery. It may be getting a good enough connection to work the small stuff but not the starter. If all connections are good, disconnect the small wire on the starter solonoid and see if you have current to the end of the wire with the switch in the ”start” position. If you do ,it’s probably the…[Read more]

  •  I think that all the kits with the split front apron are Fiber Fab /CMC, but I think some of the early Fiber Fab kits used a front apron that was raised on the left side to clear the steering box and column extension, and was bolted to the fenders. An example of this is the Leprechan that is in the for sale ad on the forum. However ,I don’t know…[Read more]
